BREED HISTORY
1665 The first load of horses, sent by King Louis XIV, arrive in New France (present day Quebec, Canada) for use by various religious orders and gentlemen farmers.
1671 Intendant Talon reports to King Louis XIV that continued shipments of horses be discontinued due to successful breeding programs.
1793 Within a century, a unique breed of horse, displaying a very limited gene pool, had been developed. Factors contributing to this include:
- a common fonder source (King Louis XIV)
- war between England and France
- geographic isolation (Appalachian Mts.)
- lack of cross breeding
- high reproductive rates
1895 The founding of the Canadian Horse Breeders Association is established by veterinarian Dr. J.A. Couture.
1999 Le gouvernement quebecois reconnaissait le cheval canadien comme cheval du patrimoine quebecois.
2002 The Canadian Horse is officially deemed to be the "National Horse of Canada" in Canadian Parliment.

CANADIAN HORSE
BREEDERS ASSOCIATION
|

Since memorable time, I have been fascinated with horses... from the way they effortlessly move over the landscape to their sense of communication, trust and companionship.
My parents have partnered with me in taking a step forward pursuing a future with horses. We have registered the name 'Battle River Canadians' and have joined the Alberta Equestrian Federation, Canadian Horse Association Rocky Mountain District and the Canadian Horse Breeders Association, CLRC. My hope is to show, breed and train Canadian Horses. As Papa (and Mama) would say, "You are never too young to pursue a dream!"
Maybe my dream could become a career... how sweet! If not, perhaps I'll find myself in some animal related field in health, reproduction or research science?
Thanks for visiting!

As a young horse, Rene' has much to learn, as I do as well, being a relatively new rider. Regardless of future achievements, Rene' and I share a bond that no show ribbon could replace. When your horse 'whinnies' and comes running to you... well, you just know you've found that special friend!
